Why We Must Gently Exfoliate…

We mentioned it in passing in our Common Beauty Mistakes post that exfoliating is important but can be over done, but we felt it time to go into a little more detail.

First off it’s really important to know that the skin on your face is much more sensitive and delicate than the skin on your body, so exfoliating should be done differently and this includes the neck and chest which should be treated with as much care as the face.

So let’s get to the exfoliation.

Start by washing your face, on the days that you exfoliate, use a gentle face cleanser to prevent irritating your skin before exfoliating.

Then you’ll need to have an exfoliator that is best suited for your face. So, although there are several choices on the market it is important to remember that most contain granule particles, which can range from fine to coarse.

Chemical and plant acids can also be used in exfoliating washes and masks and therefore natural products are often the more gentle ones.

So let’s explore the gentle types, and this is where our skincare cleanser kits containing our Power Lift Multi Action Silk and Power Lift Massage Bead Cleanser and Endless Youth Magic Beads Botanical Cleanser that exfoliate the skin come in.

A 3-in-1 anti-ageing organic based creamy skin cleanser our Power Lift Multi Action Silk Cleanser and Power Lift Message Bead Cleanser cleanses pores, tones and moisturises in one easy action containing organic oils and extracts as well as hyaluronic acid and jojoba beads.

Our Endless Youth Magic Beads Botanical Cleanser is an amazing water activated exfoliating enzyme powder that forms into a rick foam to rejuvenate and gently exfoliate all in one step using a combination of papaya, white mulberry, rice bran and liquorice root extracts.

Now to over use issues.

Our formulas are gentle enough to be used everyday and that is why the are cleansers that hold exfoliating power, however for those using other brands you most likely will need to stick to a schedule to avoid over exfoliating and therefore being too rough with your skin.

For those of you using other exfoliators you should be using your products once to three times a week, with three being the very most.

Exfoliating any more than the recommended one to three times can cause your face to show signs of peeling and redness.

The exception to this rule is if you use an exfoliating facial wash or exfoliating facial cleanser that is mild and gentle such as ours.

Now to the application.

Using a light hand, rub in circular movements and do this for about two minutes making sure to move past the cheeks and forehead where you can get stuck sometimes.

Remember to bring it down to your neck and chest.

Also remember to stay away from the eyes, as this is very delicate skin.

Other ideas to ensure you get the results your looking for is to use a sea sponge rather than a loofa.

Loofas are harsh while a sponge is gentle enough to loosen dead skin cells and unclog pores.

Another beauty tip that we have come across in our travels, is over moisturising with products that do not penetrate the skin so be sure you are using the best moisturises available and following your cleansing/exfoliating cycle apply a small amount of moisturiser to the face, neck and chest and stay youthful and clear day after day!
